Upon graduating, Johann Hermann Schein was employed briefly by Gottfried von Wolffersdorff as the house music director and tutor to his children. Due to his demonstrated abilities, he became later, in 1615, Kapellmeister at Weimar , and shortly thereafter became Kantor at the Thomasschule (and Thomaskirche) in Leipzig , a post which he held for the rest of his life.
